Decolonial research practices and methods II: Co-creating knowledge in the sub-Arctic – positionalities „white anthropologist“
3. Taller with Gertrude Saxinger.
During the months of January & February two workshops (talleres) are planned on „Decolonial research practices and methods“. Renowned researchers in this field will participate in two consecutive conversations (conversatorios):
On 22nd January 2021, 5pm Austrian time and 11am Ecuadorian time, we will have a conversation with guest speaker Sofia Zaragocin on decolonial research methods from a Latin American perspective; she did her PhD in geography at the University of Cambridge, and is one of the most important voices in recent publications on the topic of decolonial feminist research perspectives. Part of her research-activism praxis is based on critical geography and anti-racist collectives. Her workshop will focus on extractivism, conceptual and methodological „cuerpo-territorio“ approaches, decolonial and feminist approaches.
On 5th February 2021, 5pm Austrian time and 11am Ecuadorian time, we will have a conversation with guest speaker Gertrude Saxinger on practices of decolonial research. We will discuss challenges for non-indigenous scholars in joint knowledge creation with Indigenous research partners. Gertrude is PhD in social anthropology with a special focus on non-renewable resource extraction in Siberia and Yukon Territory in Canada. She is an advocate of community based participatory research (CBPR) and currently undertakes lobbying activities for co-creation of knowledge in Arctic research together with Saami Council and other scholars.
In order to facilitate an exchange between the North American and South American contexts, both researchers will participate in both conversations. They would also like to discuss with the audience (their/ your) ideas, claims & experiences in research.
